Who we work with
As part of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB), Midland Freewheelers aim to serve the NHS wherever we can, although, as the regional group for the West Midlands, our services are mainly focussed on our local hospitals. When the service started in 2010, we initially targeted our resources on New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton and this still remains one of our main prorities.
The demand for our service has grown continually and we now regularly assist the majority of hospitals and associated Health Centres and Renal Dialysis Clinics in our area. We also work with Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital, primarily transporting breast milk for premature babies. This often finds us working in close collaboration with Blood Bikes, Wales and regularly link up with them to deliver Breast Milk to Special Care Baby Units in Swansea and Newport, Wales
From time to time, the Nationwide Blood Bike network is also used by the NHS to make urgent deliveries across the length and breadth of the country. Adjacent groups contact each other and a relay is set-up to move deliveries quickly from one area to the next. This provides both a very quick and effective resource for the NHS to call on.
The demand for service continues to grow both locally and Nationally and with your help and donations, we aim to ensure we are able to continue providing this valuable role free of charge to the NHS.
